Today started with silent reading. The Reading Log Strategy of the day was "Connections".
Reading Logs: Strategy – Connect: What does the text remind you of? Make one or more of the following connections ( text to self, text to text, text to world) 2nd -Peer Assessment for Reading Log Responses Students "peer assessed" Reading Log Responses written by a classmate. The Reading Log Responses that were submitted were selected by choice ( Connection, Visualization, Question, Infer, Analyse, Synthesize, etc.)
Those that did not finish student assessments in class will be given a bit of time to complete their assessments, at the beginning of class, on Wednesday.
NOTE: Quite a few students did not come prepared with completed work to be assessed, today As students were made aware when we went over the rubrics together last week, 3/20 points were allocated for having the assignment in ON TIME.
REMINDER: Students were reminded that in addition to me telling them due dates out loud, that due dates are also posted ( every day) on the daily agenda that is posted on the LCD screen upon entering the room. It also remains posted whenever we are not using the LCD for other visuals, throughout the class. In addition, students were reminded to check their teachers' websites on a daily basis to make sure they are on top of things. I would like students to try harder to make a habit of reading the agenda, homework dates on the board, homework posted on the website, listen in class and take note of their assignments in their school agendas. Organization and Time Management is key to learning success!
There are still some students who have yet to hand in vocabulary definitions for "After Apple-Picking" (due last Monday, November 3rd) and the Charting Sense Data table for "After Apple-Picking" that was due on Friday. Please have these ready to turn in to me at the beginning of next class.
